Kimberly fortner, md

Dr. Kimberly Fortner is a native of East Tennessee.  She graduated from the University of Tennessee and completed medical school at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. Dr. Fortner then completed her residency in Gynecology & Obstetrics at Johns Hopkins.

Dr. Fortner spent 2005-2008 as a general OB/GYN at the University of Tennessee Medical Center before completing her fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Duke University. She joined HiROC and the University of Tennessee Medical Center in 2015 after spending four years on faculty at Vanderbilt University. 

Dr. Fortner is a Professor and currently serves as the Vice President of the Center for Women & Infants at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. She also serves as the Division Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Program Director of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship program, and Vice Chair of Obstetrics Quality & Service.  She is a member of several professional organizations, including the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the Infectious Disease Society of Obstetrics & Gynecology.  Dr. Fortner serves as a Board Examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology for both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

She is board certified in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Dr. Fortner’s areas of interest include advanced diagnostic testing, maternal medical complications, infectious disease in pregnancy, and maternal immunizations.
